The Christian Council of Ghana has issued a poignant call for national renewal, urging citizens to move beyond selfish interests and embrace the spirit of selflessness as the country marks the Easter festivities.
In a powerful Easter message signed by the General Secretary, Rev. Dr Cyril G.K. Fayose, the Council reflected on the solemnity of Good Friday, describing the crucifixion of Jesus Christ as the ultimate demonstration of sacrificial love.
The statement reminded the faithful of the “intense suffering, betrayal, mockery, and excruciating pain” endured at Calvary, framing Christ’s sacrifice as the blueprint for Ghana’s own path toward development.
The Council’s message placed a heavy emphasis on the need for both leaders and the general public to prioritise the collective welfare over personal gain.
Rev. Dr Fayose noted that the willingness of Christ to lay down His life serves as a direct challenge to modern Ghanaian society.
“This challenges us as Ghanaians to move beyond selfish interests and put the welfare of our nation first,” the statement read. “Leaders and citizens alike must be ready to sacrifice personal comfort for the common good of our country men and women.”
Beyond sacrifice, the Council identified forgiveness and reconciliation as essential virtues for national cohesion. At a time when political and ethnic lines often divide the populace, the message highlighted Christ’s prayer for His persecutors as a mandate for modern-day peacebuilding.
The Council urged Ghanaians to actively work toward healing these divisions to ensure that unity becomes the foundation for national transformation.
The address also struck a firm chord regarding the moral state of the nation. With a clear eye on the challenges of corruption and dishonesty, the Council warned that the religious significance of Easter would be diminished if it did not result in a change of conduct.
“The Christian Council urges all Ghanaians to reject corruption, dishonesty, and moral compromise in every sphere of life,” Rev. Dr Fayose stated. “Integrity must become one of the key foundations of our public and private conduct lest the Easter event loses its moral significance.”
The leadership expressed hope that if Christian ethical values were allowed to drive national affairs, the result would be a society built on justice, peace, and shared prosperity.
It called in citizens to allow the message of the cross to shape their individual characters, arguing that the raising of honest leaders and responsible citizens is the only way to secure the future of the nation.

Christian Council of Ghana’s Easter Message
As we solemnly observe Good Friday, the Christian Council of Ghana entreats all Ghanaians, particularly the Christian faithful, to reflect deeply on the passion and the crucifixion of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. On this day, we remember the intense suffering, betrayal, mockery, and excruciating pain Jesus endured on the cross at Calvary. Nailed to the cross, He bore the sins of the world. In the midst of unimaginable agony, Christ demonstrated the depth of God’s love by praying, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do” (Luke 23:34). He cried out in obedience, “It is finished” (John 19:30), completing the work of redemption.
The Christian Council of Ghana calls on the Christian community in Ghana and across the world to see the cross of Christ as the ultimate symbol of sacrificial love, forgiveness, and victory over sin and death, consistent with agelong Christian beliefs. The Easter event presents us with, essential Christian and moral virtues that are critical for Ghana’s development:
We need to uphold the principle of sacrifice and selflessness because Jesus willingly laid down His life for others. This challenges us as Ghanaians to move beyond selfish interests and put the welfare of our nation first. Leaders and citizens alike must be ready to sacrifice personal comfort for the common good of our country men and women.
To teach us the virtues of forgiveness and reconciliation, Christ offered forgiveness to even his fiercest persecutors. In a nation of diverse people, we are called to embrace forgiveness, heal ethnic and political divisions, and work towards genuine reconciliation so that unity and peace can be leveraged for national cohesion and transformation. In addition, Jesus remained faithful to the truth even in the face of suffering and death. The Christian Council urges all Ghanaians to reject corruption, dishonesty, and moral compromise in every sphere of life. Integrity must become one of the key foundations of our public and private conduct lest the Easter event loses its moral significance.
In conclusion, the Christian Council of Ghana calls on all Christians and citizens of our beloved nation to allow the message of the cross to shape our character and actions. When Christian ethical values drive our personal lives and national affairs, we raise honest leaders, responsible citizens, and a society built on justice, peace, and shared prosperity for holistic national transformation.
Signed
