A suspected armed robber was fatally shot during a police operation that thwarted a planned highway robbery on the Ejura-Nkoranza road in the Ashanti Region.
According to a police statement, the incident occurred on April 9, 2026, following an intelligence-led operation near Mimenaso No. 2, where a six-member gang had allegedly planned to ambush commuters.
The police reported that the suspects, led by Mahamadu Fuseini, also known as Shaini, fired at officers after mistakenly identifying them as potential targets.
The team responded with gunfire, killing one suspect, while the others, including the alleged leader, fled the scene.
A pump-action gun loaded with four live cartridges, two spent cartridges, and three mobile phones were confiscated.
Additionally, two live cartridges and a talisman were found on the deceased suspect.
The body was taken to the Atebubu Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy. The police have launched a manhunt to apprehend the remaining suspects.
