Damang Mine—formerly operated by Gold Fields Ghana Limited—has been officially handed over to engineers and planners.
The transfer follows the company’s successful bid for the mining concession.
The official ceremony took place at the mine site on Saturday, April 18, 2026, where the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, performed the symbolic transfer of operations.
Following the ceremony, Ibrahim Mahama, chief executive officer of Engineers and Planners, reflected on his thirty-year history with the Damang Mine.
He pledged to implement significant investments designed to revitalise the mine and uplift the surrounding communities.
“I would say that, look, if we all put our minds together, this is a success story. And the plan I have for Damang Mine is not a joke. I just want to prove that we can invest in ourselves in this country,” he stated.
Ibrahim Mahama further outlined an ambitious development roadmap aimed at improving regional connectivity and economic activity.
The projects include the construction of a concrete road linking Damang to Cape Coast, slated for completion within two years, and the development of a local airport, with a projected timeline of just six months.
These projects are intended to serve as a testament to the capability of local firms in managing large-scale operations while driving sustainable growth for the Ghanaian economy.
