Local Government Minister Ahmed Ibrahim has revealed that all 9,090 assembly members nationwide received monthly allowances exceeding GHS1,000 between April and December 2025.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series in Accra on Monday, 20 April 2026, Mr Ibrahim clarified the financial specifics of the initiative.

He explained that while the official approved rate stood at GHS1,300, statutory deductions such as taxes resulted in a net take-home pay slightly above the GHS1,000 mark.

The Minister emphasised that the introduction of these allowances marks a significant milestone in local governance under the Mahama administration.

“All the 9,090 assembly members were paid GHS1,300, and after tax deductions, each received more than GHS1,000 for every month from April to December 2025,” he stated.

Looking ahead, the Minister confirmed that the government is currently processing payments for the first quarter of 2026. He expressed firm confidence in the policy’s longevity, noting that the successful rollout in 2025 serves as a foundation for continued support.

He added that this iniatitive which a camapaign promise aims to ensure that assembly members remain properly motivated to discharge their duties effectively within their respective communities.
