Thousands of newly recruited teachers across Ghana can finally breathe a sigh of relief following a formal announcement by the Ghana Education Service (GES) regarding the settlement of long-standing salary arrears.
The payment approval follows extensive collaboration between the Ministry of Finance and the Controller and Accountant General’s Department.
According to a statement signed by the Head of Public Relations at the GES, Daniel Fenyi, the funds are designated for staff who were brought into the service under the 2024 financial clearance.
The arrears specifically cover the period starting from 1 August 2024 through to November 2025.
To maintain fiscal stability and ensure the accuracy of the disbursement, the government has opted for a phased payment structure.
Rather than a single lump sum, the outstanding salaries will be paid in four distinct instalments beginning next month.
Teachers can expect to receive four months’ worth of arrears in May 2026, with subsequent identical payments scheduled for June, July, and August.
Management at the GES emphasised that this structured approach was intentionally designed to foster transparency and eliminate errors during the processing phase.
Regional Directors have already been instructed to relay these timelines to school heads nationwide, ensuring that every eligible staff member is kept informed of when their specific payments will reflect in their accounts.
The GES has expressed its gratitude to the teaching body for their patience and reaffirmed its commitment to prioritising staff welfare as a means of improving the overall quality of education in the country.
