The Public Accounts Committee has ordered the Sunyani West Municipal Assembly to refund GH¢116,000 following the unauthorized transfer of public funds intended for staff end-of-service benefits.
This directive was issued during the Committee’s Tuesday, April 21, sitting on the Auditor-General’s report.
During the proceedings, Assembly officials admitted to transferring GH¢135,000 for these payments despite lacking the necessary legal authorization.
While the Assembly disclosed that GH¢19,000 has already been recovered, an outstanding balance of GH¢116,000 remains.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the regulatory breach, the Committee mandated that the full remaining amount be settled within 30 days, warning that non-compliance could result in further sanctions.
“Respectfully, within 30 days we want the monies paid and the receipt given to the regional representative of the Audit Service, with a copy sent to the Public Accounts Committee,” Abena Osei Asare, Chairperson for the Public Accounts Committee, demanded.
