Ghanaian authorities confirmed that the violence claimed the lives of several military personnel and civilians, including Mali’s Minister of Defence, General Sadio Camara.

In a formal statement released from Accra, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs extended its deepest condolences to the Malian people and called for intensified international cooperation to combat violent extremism.

The ministry emphasised that such acts of terror have no place in the modern world and reaffirmed Ghana’s solidarity with its neighbour during this period of instability.

In response to the heightened risk, an immediate travel advisory has been issued for Ghanaian nationals currently in Mali.

Citizens are urged to limit non-essential movements and maintain constant communication with the Ghanaian Embassy in Bamako.

Furthermore, the government has directed Ghanaian traders and long-distance drivers who frequently use the transit routes into Mali to suspend all travel until further notice.

Officials are currently working alongside Malian authorities to monitor the situation and will provide updates regarding the safe resumption of trade.
