Hon. Jerry Ahmed Shaib, MP for Weija Gbawe, has called on the government to maintain stable electricity throughout the 2026 BECE period to enable candidates to study and write their exams effectively.

“We only will use this channel to pray to the government that they should try and keep the lights on during this period so that the children will be able to do all the studies that they are expected to do, especially within this period,” he said.

The MP made the appeal after distributing almost 3,000 pairs of locally made sandals to BECE candidates in his constituency under the “Buckle Up to School with the MP” initiative. The sandals comply with GES rules that prohibit socks during exams to prevent cheating.

The 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in Ghana is scheduled to take place from Monday, May 4, to Monday, May 11, 2026. Over 600,000 candidates are expected to participate in this final assessment for junior high school students, which will be administered by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) for both school and private candidates.

Hon. Ahmed Shaib also offered advice to the candidates. To wish them great success and to wish them well. They should also remember to read instructions carefully. That’s the first step of writing an exam and passing. And when you read the instructions and you have understood carefully, that is when you now decide to answer questions properly.

“They have our prayers, they have our support,” he added.
