Black Stars lack stability and discipline; new coach must act – Asiamah

Former Youth and Sports Minister Isaac Kwame Asiamah has asserted that the senior national team, the Black Stars, currently lacks the requisite stability and discipline to excel.

He noted that despite possessing individually talented, skilled, and qualified players, the squad’s performance has been hampered by a distinct lack of team spirit and internal order.

He has therefore advised the newly appointed head coach, Carlos Queiroz, to prioritise the restoration of discipline and the maintenance of a consistent team structure.

During an interview with Rainbow Sports, Mr Asiamah expressed concern regarding the frequency with which national coaches are dismissed and replaced, describing the trend as unfortunate.

He argued that this high turnover rate has directly undermined the stability of the team.

He underscored the need for players to cultivate a positive mentality and a sense of patriotism, urging them to give their all and take pride in representing their nation.

“The new coach must focus on maintaining discipline within the team because the team lacks discipline. The team is facing struggles or challenges. We keep changing coaches, and that alone affects preparations. We have individual quality players, but their mentality remains a challenge. They must have the desire to play for the country and feel proud of the flag,” he stressed.

Addressing the issue of the team’s readiness, Mr Asiamah remarked that the build-up to the World Cup has been insufficient. He stated that, thus far, the preparation is terrible and not encouraging.

He maintained that while the quality of players is evident, they must learn to function as a cohesive unit.

Despite these concerns, he remained optimistic that the team possesses the potential to shine on the world stage, provided the coach successfully instills discipline and fosters a stable environment.
