Minister Calls for Infrastructure Expansion to Resolve School Placement Challenges

May 4, 2026
Haruna-Iddrisu

The Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, has reiterated the necessity for significant investment in Senior High School (SHS) infrastructure, identifying such capital expenditure as the most sustainable solution to the ongoing challenges associated with the Computerised School Placement System (CSSPS).

He asserted that expanding educational facilities across the nation remains critical to easing the systemic pressure on placement and ensuring broader access to high-quality secondary education.

These remarks were delivered while the Minister addressed candidates sitting the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) at Asawinso Senior High School in the Western North Region on Monday, 4 May 2026.

During his visit, he noted that the government has established comprehensive measures to support the students’ transition to secondary education.

Mr Iddrisu further advised the candidates to remain calm and focused, announcing that a nationwide sensitisation exercise would soon be launched to guide them in selecting appropriate Senior High Schools.

He assured stakeholders that resolving the recurring difficulties within the placement system requires a deliberate and strategic expansion of physical infrastructure.

“If we want to enhance the computerised placement system, we must invest more in education infrastructure: more classrooms, more dormitories, more laboratories, and improvement in the provision of learning materials and their quality,” he stated.
