The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, has issued a formal apology to the people of Ghana following controversial remarks regarding civil service postings to the Northern Regions.

In a press statement released on Tuesday, the Minister addressed a widely circulated video in which she suggested that transferring public officials to northern Ghana could be interpreted as a form of punishment.

She described the comments as a genuine slip in communication that does not represent her personal views or the official policies governing the Ghana Public Service.

Providing context for the remarks, Hon. Ocloo explained that she was responding to a media inquiry concerning technocrats alleged to have bypassed due process in issuing development permits.

The line of questioning suggested that such individuals were often moved to nearby districts, which allowed questionable practices to continue.

In her attempt to explain that some staff are instead posted to locations far from their homes to ensure administrative integrity, she admitted her choice of words inadvertently created an impression that these regions were undesirable destinations.

The Minister expressed her unreserved apology to all citizens, specifically reaching out to those in the Northern Regions for any offence or discomfort her statement caused.

She maintained that she holds the highest regard for professionalism and equity, stressing that all administrative decisions and staff transfers are conducted strictly according to established regulations without prejudice.

Hon. Ocloo reaffirmed her commitment to serving the Greater Accra Region with accountability and urged the public to consider the matter resolved following her sincere retraction.
