The Ghana Police Service has apprehended 50 suspects linked to various drug-related offenses within the Greater Accra Region.

The arrests were the result of an intelligence-led anti-narcotics operation carried out at the Madina Market enclave on Thursday, May 7, by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Special Operations Team. This initiative specifically targeted the primary supply and distribution networks of illicit substances embedded within the local market.

The Director-General of Police Operations, Emmanuel Teye Cudjoe, detailed the results of the raid during a press conference on Friday, May 8, 2026.

He noted that the group of suspects consists of 46 males and four females. Preliminary screenings have clarified the diverse nationalities involved, confirming that 25 of the individuals are Ghanaians, while the remaining 25 include 13 Nigerians, nine Nigeriens, one Malian, one Togolese, and one Burkinabe national.

Further police investigations have pinpointed two primary figures within the criminal network: Abigail Oku, 26, and Mohammed Zaya, a Nigerian national, both of whom are believed to be kingpins operating in the enclave.

Additionally, COP Cudjoe identified Yousef Abubakar, 25, and Ahmadu Alfani, 43, both Nigerian nationals, as shop owners allegedly instrumental in the sale and distribution of these substances.

“Items retrieved during the operation include 230 boxes of tramadol valued at 130,000 cedis, 49 boxes of wrappers valued at 26,000 cedis, 10 parcels of Indian herb valued at 15,000 cedis, 13 boxes of crashes, mobile phones, scissors, knives and other suspected Nakoti-related materials.

The estimated street value of the recovered exhibits amounts to 200 Ghanaian cities,” he added.
All 50 suspects, alongside the seized evidence, have been transferred to the National Operations Department Directorate Headquarters

.

They remain in custody to assist with ongoing investigations as authorities determine the next legal steps.

The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to public safety, stating that it will continue to intensify targeted operations to dismantle narcotic supply chains in markets and communities across the country.
