The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) has publicly commended citizens for helping to expose an illegal manufacturing operation in Afienya, near Tema.
Dr Awal Mohammed, the Deputy Director-General in charge of Operations, expressed gratitude to the public for alerting the Authority to the illicit activities of Jin Yuan Jia Limited, a mattress manufacturer.
The GSA initially shut down the factory in October 2025 after laboratory analysis revealed that its mattresses failed to meet national safety and quality standards, posing structural and health risks to consumers.
Despite the official closure, the company broke the GSA seals and unlawfully resumed production using unapproved, substandard chemicals and materials.
This breach prompted a subsequent enforcement action in May 2026, leading to the re-entry of the site and the arrest of the company’s Chinese managers.
Speaking on the radio programme Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Dr Mohammed emphasised that public vigilance was crucial in detecting the illegal reopening.
He urged Ghanaians to continue collaborating with state agencies to support the government’s “resetting agenda”, noting that such partnerships remain vital for protecting consumer safety and enforcing regulatory compliance.
