Telecoms giant MTN Ghana has announced the introduction of new charges for transferring funds from Mobile Money (MoMo) wallets to bank accounts, effective from 1 June 2026.

The company informed subscribers of the impending change via a text message broadcast on Monday, 24 May 2026.

Under the new pricing structure, transactions from MoMo wallets to bank accounts will incur a 0.75 per cent fee, with the maximum charge capped at GHS 5 per transaction.

The customer notification stated: “From 1 June 2026, transfers from your MoMo Wallet to bank accounts will attract a fee of 0.75% per transaction, capped at GHS 5.

According to the network operator, this adjustment “will help us continue to serve you better.”

The decision is anticipated to spark widespread public debate among mobile money users, a significant number of whom depend heavily on these transfers for commercial transactions, salary payments, and day-to-day banking.

While the new policy introduces a percentage-based levy on all funds moved from MoMo wallets to banks, customers can take reassurance that the total fee deducted for any single transaction will be strictly limited to GHS 5.
