The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has opened applications for the recruitment of 400 revenue collectors as part of efforts to strengthen revenue mobilisation and support the government’s 24-hour economy agenda.

The recruitment, which is expected to create job opportunities for residents, has been linked to the government’s 24-hour economy agenda, which seeks to expand productivity, generate employment and promote continuous economic activity across the country.

The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, who disclosed this, said successful applicants would be engaged and deployed to various sub-metropolitan areas, markets, business districts, transport terminals and other approved revenue points under its jurisdiction.

He said the exercise formed part of ongoing measures to improve internally generated funds, block revenue leakages and promote a more transparent, accountable and efficient revenue collection system.

The Mayor noted that strengthening revenue mobilisation was critical to the provision of key services, including sanitation management, market improvement, road maintenance, public health services, drainage works, street lighting and other development projects.

According to him, the capital city had a major role to play in the implementation of the 24-hour economy policy, particularly because of its concentration of markets, commercial centres, transport services, hospitality facilities and night-time economic activities.

He pointed out that a more effective revenue collection system would help provide the resources needed to support businesses, improve urban services and create the enabling environment for economic activity to thrive beyond regular working hours.

Mayor Allotey said persons engaged under the recruitment exercise would receive training in revenue collection procedures, customer relations, accountability, reporting systems, digital payment processes and ethical conduct to enable collectors to carry out their duties professionally and in accordance with the Assembly’s approved guidelines.

The AMA boss encouraged the public to report any unauthorised person who attempted to collect money in the name of the Assembly.
