The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has commenced the voluntary repatriation of 150 Malawian nationals who were displaced and living in temporary camps in Mossel Bay, South Africa.
The evacuation process began over the weekend when the first two buses departed from South Africa’s Western Cape Province.
The operation is being managed by a multidisciplinary Malawi Task Team working alongside the Malawi High Commission in South Africa.
The returnees are traveling by road through Zimbabwe and Mozambique, with their arrival expected at the Mwanza Border Post.
From the border, they will be transported to Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre for processing before heading to their final destinations.
In an official statement, the Ministry reaffirmed its dedication to the citizens’ welfare, stating it maintains a “commitment to ensuring safety and well-being of all affected Malawians and readiness to provide the necessary transit and consular support in coordination with all relevant Government Ministries, Agencies and Departments.”
