NHIA

In a major move to reinforce its collaboration with service providers, the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) distributed over GH¢113 million to healthcare facilities across the country in May 2026.

This significant financial release underscores the Authority’s dedication to fostering a robust and mutually beneficial relationship with stakeholders operating under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

The disbursed funds, totaling GH¢113,650,234.12, settle claims for medical services provided to NHIS subscribers from January to March 2026, alongside select outstanding balances from 2025.

Private medical institutions secured the largest portion of the payout, receiving GH¢47,720,615.12, which constitutes 41.99 percent of the allocation.

Public health facilities were allocated GH¢43,703,445.59, representing 38.45 percent, while mission-based facilities received GH¢22,226,173.41, accounting for the remaining 19.56 percent.

Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, Chief Executive of the NHIA, emphasized that medical providers are vital allies in ensuring millions of registered Ghanaians receive top-tier medical attention.

“The success of the NHIS depends on the strength of our partnership with healthcare providers. These payments demonstrate our resolve to honour our obligations and ensure that facilities have the resources needed to continue delivering quality healthcare services to our members,” he said.

Dr. Bampoe further explained that the Authority is actively refining its claims management systems to boost operational efficiency and establish a more predictable reimbursement schedule for providers.

Expressing gratitude for the medical community’s unwavering commitment, the NHIA praised providers for their daily sacrifices in caring for NHIS beneficiaries.

The organization highlighted how instrumental these frontline workers are in driving Ghana closer to universal health coverage and elevating national health standards.

The NHIA reminded its credentialed network to maintain top-tier professionalism, transparency, and accountability when treating patients and processing paperwork.

The Authority stressed the importance of submitting accurate claims that match actual treatments provided, urging strict adherence to NHIS guidelines to preserve the long-term viability of the program.

“As we continue to meet our obligations to providers, we equally count on our partners to adhere to the Scheme’s operational and clinical standards. Together, we can protect the integrity of the NHIS, safeguard public funds, and ensure that members receive the quality healthcare services they deserve,” Dr. Bampoe emphasised.

Looking forward, the NHIA continues to prioritize deeper cooperation with healthcare facilities and industry stakeholders, aiming to cultivate a highly responsive, efficient, and resilient National Health Insurance Scheme for all citizens.
