National Film Authority Unveils Film Classification Management Committee

The National Film Authority has officially introduced the members of its Film Classification Management Committee, a body tasked with reviewing, classifying, and ensuring that films meet appropriate standards for public audiences.

The committee is led by Joseph K. Amoah, the Chief Director of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture & Creative Arts, who serves as the Chairperson.

The rest of the committee consists of a diverse group of stakeholders representing various traditional, religious, academic, and state institutions.

The membership includes Okotwasuo Kantamanto Owrae Agyekum III, the Akyem Bosomehene representing the National House of Chiefs, Mr. Daniel Clerk, a Principal Cultural Officer from the National Commission on Culture, and Dr. Baba Haruna, a lecturer at UniMAC-IFT.

The creative industry and regulatory bodies are represented by Mr. Lord Adama Akwetey Kanyi, Assistant Secretary for the Film Producers Association of Ghana, and Mr. Issah Mahama, a Principal Research Officer at the Copyright Office. Public safety and information sectors are represented by Mr. Gilbert Ekow Ampah, Senior Information Officer and Head of the Film Desk at the Information Services Department, and ASP Angela Kumi, serving as the Ghana Police Service representative. Mrs. Karikari Bediako, Chief Program Officer for the Ministry of Gender and Children, also joins the committee to safeguard audience interests.

Religious bodies are heavily represented on the board to ensure moral and cultural alignment. Very Rev. Helena Opoku-Sarkodie represents the Christian Council of Ghana, while Imam Adam Musah Abubakar, the Imam of the Abossey Okai Central Mosque, serves on behalf of the Office of the National Chief Imam.

Supported by the Film Development Fund, this committee is expected to regulate content effectively, balancing artistic expression with societal values.
