Let’s show the team love, wear our jerseys, and pray for victory as we play our first game – MP

Damata Ama Appianimaa Salam, the Member of Parliament for Kwabre East and a member of the parliamentary Sports Committee, has appealed to Ghanaians to show the Black Stars massive support as they prepare to face Panama in their opening group match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Expressing optimism that Ghana will secure its first three points of the tournament, she emphasised that achieving victory requires the collective backing of the nation.

Government releases over GHS 76 million for the Black Stars World Cup campaign.

She noted that while love for the senior national team remains intact, it needs to be actively revived to inspire the players to deliver their best performance on the global stage.

Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the lawmaker urged the public to proudly wear their national jerseys in solidarity with the team.

Addressing host Kwabena Agyapong, she stated, “I would love to use this opportunity to appeal to Ghanaians to show the team love. We should go all out in wearing our jerseys and support the team. Most importantly, we should pray for the team.”

The MP also weighed in on the government’s decision not to airlift local supporters to the World Cup, opting instead to purchase match tickets for Ghanaians already residing in the host countries.

Disagreeing with this approach, she pointed out that the team relied heavily on passionate, home-based support to secure their World Cup qualification, meaning there should be nothing wrong with airlifting fans to the tournament itself.

She lamented that depending solely on the Ghanaian community abroad would lack the organic energy of sending dedicated supporters from Ghana, arguing that government-sponsored fans would have guaranteed a consistent and fiercely loyal presence in the stadium at all times.
