Kwesi Kwarteng, spokesperson for former Assin Central Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong, has urged the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to immediately establish reconciliation mechanisms to address internal grievances and build a unified front for the 2028 elections.

Responding to recent comments made by Mr. Agyapong—where the former MP threatened to “spill the beans” about the party—Kwarteng explained that instead of attacking him, the party should view his remarks as a wake-up call to unite its front.

Speaking in an interview on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Kwarteng also refuted claims that Kennedy Agyapong is the founder of a new political group called “The Base.”

Addressing the tensions within the party, Kwarteng noted that the current friction highlights unresolved issues following the elections.

“What Kennedy said shows that all is not well. The responses that have also come from some party people show that all is not well, especially after the elections. But I will appeal to the leadership of the party to understand that this is an opportunity for reconciliation, ensuring that there are stronger structures to address existing challenges or proper channels to resolve conflicts.”

He noted that because the party is not run by perfect beings, concerns and grievances are inevitable.

However, when it becomes clear that members have offended one another, the party must actively work to address those issues.

He encouraged the NPP to let sleeping dogs lie so that everyone can focus on the bigger picture of unity, adding that while the former MP’s comments were made out of anger, they do not stem from disdain for the NPP.

When asked to specifically confirm if Kennedy Agyapong had founded “The Base” and left the NPP, Kwarteng stated that he had received no information regarding a resignation.

“I have not received any briefing from Kennedy Agyapong that he has left the party. If he had left the party, we would have issued a statement about it. As far as I am concerned, he remains a member of the party. He spoke out of anger, and I am certain that whatever concerns exist will be resolved.”

When pressed on whether Mr. Agyapong is ready to engage with the NPP leadership, Kwarteng expressed optimism.

“I think with the right environment, the right circumstances, and the right conversation, everything is possible. I am sure there are concerns, and that was why he spoke out of anger. If those concerns are addressed, I don’t think he will refuse to engage.”
