GETFund to allocate GH¢100M to Technical Universities from 2027

June 19, 2026
Haruna-Iddrisu

The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) will allocate a minimum of GH¢10 million annually to each of the country’s ten technical universities starting in 2027, Education Minister Hon. Haruna Iddrisu has announced.

Appearing before Parliament to answer questions, the Minister noted that the total commitment would amount to GH¢100 million across the institutions, stating that “the Speaker would honour that” assurance.

Addressing the “No Fees Stress” policy, Hon. Iddrisu dismissed concerns over payment backlogs, clarifying that the government has met all financial commitments for the past three years.

“There is no outstanding obligation in respect of No Fees Stress for 2024, 2025, 2026,” he said.

He explained that the Ministry of Finance has released adequate funding to the Student Loan Trust Fund, which manages both the “No Fees Stress” initiative and the free tertiary feeding program for students with disabilities.

According to the Minister, the Education Ministry’s role is restricted to verifying applicant data before disbursement.

“What we do is just authentication – are you the real student? Are you a student of this particular institution? And more importantly are you a first year student? When that is satisfactory then payment is done,” he told Parliament.

The Minister confirmed that the Student Loan Trust Fund is actively distributing the money to eligible students following the latest capital release from the Finance Ministry.
