The Ministry of Education has warned that final-year Senior High School students who damage school property following the completion of their examinations will face severe consequences.
The warning follows reports of vandalism as students concluded the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
In an official statement, the ministry condemned the deliberate destruction of infrastructure, describing such acts as unacceptable behavior that undermines public investment.
School facilities, including classroom furniture, dormitories, electrical installations, and sanitation blocks, are public assets funded by taxpayers to support teaching and learning.
The ministry stressed that celebrating the end of secondary education through indiscipline directly contradicts the values expected of the country’s future leaders.
Dr Clement Abas Apaak, the Deputy Minister for Education, emphasised the government’s stance on accountability, stating that the destruction of educational infrastructure would not go unpunished.
“Our schools are spaces where we nurture responsible citizens and future leaders,” Dr Apaak said. “Destroying school property, disrupting facilities, and celebrating indiscipline is not the kind of conduct we expect from young people preparing to take up leadership responsibilities in our country.”
The ministry urged students to celebrate their academic milestones responsibly, reminding them that their actions carry lasting consequences. It also extended a call to parents, educators, and community leaders to reinforce the values of discipline and civic responsibility.
“It remains our collective responsibility to safeguard our schools and protect the investments made for future generations,” Dr Apaak added.
To ensure accountability, the ministry has directed all school authorities to thoroughly document and report every incident of vandalism through the established Ghana Education Service structures.
These reports are to be routed through School Boards and Regional Education Directorates to the headquarters for immediate investigation and subsequent disciplinary action.
