The Ministry of the Interior has suspended the operating licence of Kantanka Security Services Limited with immediate effect.

The decisive administrative action follows serious reports of the alleged unauthorised use of firearms, ammunition, and unprescribed uniforms by the company’s personnel during an operation in Kwabenya, Accra, on Sunday, 21st June 2026.

Preliminary investigations conducted by authorities indicated notable breaches of the Police Service (Private Security Organisations) Regulations, 1992 (L.I. 1571), which strictly govern private security operations across Ghana.

In a statement released to all media houses, the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak (MP), emphasised the gravity of the situation, noting that such infractions pose a direct threat to national stability.

“The usage of unprescribed uniforms, unauthorised possession and use of firearms and ammunition as well as security accoutrements by private security personnel, constitutes a serious breach with significant implications for public safety and security,” the Minister stated.

Consequently, the Ministry has directed Kantanka Security Services Limited to halt all operations immediately whilst a full investigation is conducted.

Furthermore, the Ministry has instructed the firm to cooperate fully with the Ghana Police Service to ensure a thorough inquiry, whilst advising corporate entities and the public to refrain from transacting business with the security firm in the interim.

The Ministry reassured the public that the suspension remains an administrative safeguard while investigations continue, promising that appropriate legal actions will follow the final findings.

Private security firms nationwide have also been strictly reminded to adhere to uniform compliance directives issued earlier this year, with the Ministry reiterating that it “will not hesitate to take the necessary action against any PSO found to be in breach of the law”.
