The National Democratic Congress has officially named its headquarters after its founder, Jerry John Rawlings, in recognition of his significant role in Ghanaian politics.
Speaking at the plaque unveiling in Accra, President John Dramani Mahama stated that the gesture would help future generations appreciate the sacrifices made by the late former president.
He noted that justice and progress require the party to remain focused on serving the people of Ghana, adding that Rawlings’ memory continues to inspire both the NDC and the nation.
President Mahama added that whilst the party honours its past leaders, it must build on the foundations they laid for future generations.
Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Chairman of the NDC, explained that although Rawlings had resisted having institutions named after him during his lifetime, the party felt it vital to preserve his legacy.
Following consultations and a review of international practices, the party concluded that naming the headquarters “Jerry John Rawlings House” was a fitting tribute.

General Secretary Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey described the late president as a visionary leader whose guidance was instrumental to the party’s growth, adding that the NDC would not have achieved its current standing without Rawlings’ leadership and legacy.
