The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has launched a comprehensive safety campaign across the Eastern Region to bolster fire prevention, emergency response, and disaster preparedness.
The intensified drive spans several areas, including Koforidua, Akim Oda, and the New Juaben North Municipality.
In Koforidua, the Metro Fire Station introduced the “One Vehicle, One Fire Emergency Contact Sticker” campaign.
Fire officers visited the Central Business District to engage commercial drivers from the Ghana Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and the Progressive Transport Owners Association (PROTOA).
The team distributed emergency contact stickers and educated transport operators on the critical importance of displaying these numbers prominently to ensure swift reporting of incidents.
Simultaneously, the Akim Oda Fire Station conducted a targeted safety seminar for staff at the local Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) office. Employees underwent practical training on preventative measures, evacuation protocols, emergency coordination, and the correct operation of fire extinguishers.
To further strengthen the region’s resilience, the New Juaben North Municipal Assembly has officially inaugurated its reconstituted Municipal Disaster Management Committee.
The newly formed body is tasked with upgrading local disaster response mechanisms and improving inter-agency coordination during emergencies.
