Former President John Dramani Mahama has officially proposed naming the National Democratic Congress (NDC) headquarters after the party’s founder, the late Jerry John Rawlings, calling it a vital reminder of the core principles that must guide the party’s future.
Mahama described the former president as a foundational pillar of modern Ghana whose impact continues to shape the country’s political landscape.
“Jerry Rawlings was a transformative figure whose vision inspired generations of Ghanaians and whose determination laid the foundations for the democratic stability and political freedoms that we now enjoy today as a nation,” Mahama stated.
The decision to immortalise Rawlings at the party’s central hub is intended to be more than a symbolic gesture.
According to Mahama, the dedication serves as a permanent directive for the party’s leadership and rank-and-file to embody the ideals of the revolution and the return to democratic governance that Rawlings spearheaded.
“Naming the National Democratic Congress headquarters after him is not only a tribute to his immense contribution to our party and our nation, but a declaration that the values he championed, the values of integrity, patriotism, sacrifice, courage, discipline, and service to the people, must continue to guide our actions as a party and a government,” Mahama said.
As the NDC prepares for upcoming political cycles, Mahama emphasized that the renamed headquarters should serve as a moral compass, ensuring that public service and national interest remain at the forefront of the party’s mission.
