The Savannah Regional Health Directorate (SRHD) of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has interdicted the medical staff responsible for the care of a newborn baby who went missing at the East Gonja Municipal Hospital in Salaga.

The affected staff members have since been arraigned before the Tamale High Court and are currently facing criminal proceedings.

The disciplinary action and legal prosecution follow a previous press release issued on June 11, 2026, regarding the unfortunate disappearance of the infant.

According to regional health authorities, the decision to suspend the personnel aligns strictly with institutional protocols.

“Considering these developments and in accordance with the GHS Code of Conduct and Disciplinary Procedures, the staff in question have been interdicted pending the outcome of the case,” the Directorate stated in an official update signed by the Regional Director of Health Service, Dr. John Ekow Otoo.

To ensure a thorough inquiry into the systemic failures that allowed the incident to occur, management has constituted a seven-member Investigation Committee.

The panel is tasked with investigating the circumstances surrounding the loss of the baby, recommending appropriate disciplinary actions, and proposing corrective strategies to prevent future occurrences across health facilities.

Meanwhile, the GHS noted that psychological support has been arranged for the distraught parents during this difficult period.

The Directorate further indicated that it is working in close collaboration with law enforcement agencies to track down the missing child. An appeal has been extended to healthcare facilities and the general public nationwide to assist with any information that could break the case open.

“All hospitals, child welfare clinics, and Community Health Officers (CHOs) in the country are requested to remain on the alert for any mother-baby pair whose circumstances appear suspicious and to promptly report to the nearest police station,” the statement urged.

Members of the public who possess relevant information have been advised to step forward and share it with the nearest police station, the East Gonja Municipal Hospital, or the regional directorate, with the assurance that all disclosures will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.

The GHS reaffirmed its commitment to safety and accountability, promising to keep the public informed as the investigation and legal proceedings advance.
