The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has announced free registration for all individuals and their dependants affected by the recent floods in Accra, moving swiftly to mitigate health risks following rising cases of cholera and diarrhoea.
The directive, announced by NHIA Chief Executive Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, aims to provide urgent public health protection for heavily impacted communities where disrupted sanitation and contaminated water sources have heightened the risk of waterborne illnesses.
“No Ghanaian should be denied access to quality healthcare because of a natural disaster,” Dr. Bampoe stated.
“With an eminent outbreak of diarrhoea and cholera following the floods, this free registration will ensure that victims and their families can seek timely treatment without financial burden.”
The free registration initiative is designed to remove financial barriers, ensuring vulnerable residents can immediately access medical care as emergency teams monitor the escalating health situation in the capital.
