GAF launches 440-Unit Burma Camp Housing Project

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has launched the Burma Camp Redevelopment Project, a landmark initiative designed to deliver 440 modern housing units for military personnel.

The development features 192 units at El Wak Barracks, 248 units at Medo Lines in Burma Camp, and the transformation of the Burma Camp Post Office into a two-storey commercial complex.

Speaking at the Accra launch, Deputy Defence Minister Ernest Brogya Genfi commended the military leadership for prioritising redevelopment over the costly maintenance of ageing structures.

“Decent accommodation is critical to improving the welfare, morale, and operational readiness of our personnel,” Mr Genfi stated.

He noted that modern housing is increasingly urgent as the military takes on broader roles, including counter-terrorism, maritime security, and international peacekeeping.

The project aligns with the government’s ‘Resetting Ghana Agenda’ and complements the wider 10,000 Housing Units Programme.

To drive private sector investment, the Ghana Revenue Authority has granted tax-deductible status to eligible contributions from corporate bodies and philanthropists supporting the build.
