MoE rubbishes fugitive Bole SHS teacher’s ‘unintentional’ excuse, urges police to step up hunt

The Ministry of Education has issued a call to the Ghana Police Service to intensify its efforts in tracking down and prosecuting an interdicted teacher from Bole Senior High School, who remains at large weeks after a nationwide manhunt was launched.

Expressing deep concern over the delay in apprehending the suspect, the Ministry noted that the teacher’s continued evasion of justice undermines public confidence, especially given the gravity of the misconduct and the high public interest surrounding the case.

The demand follows recent reports that the fugitive teacher granted an interview from his hiding place, claiming his actions were unintentional.

A statement attributed to him has also circulated, in which he reportedly pleaded for a transfer to a village school.

However, the Ministry has fiercely rejected these claims, stating that fresh evidence points to a pattern of deliberate predatory behaviour.

“We are determined to see the erring teacher arrested urgently because information available to us indicates that contrary to what he claimed in his recent interview, his unprofessional conduct was deliberate and intentional,” the Deputy Minister for Education, Dr Clement Abas Apaak, stated in an official release.

Dr Apaak revealed that the Ministry has sighted additional footage exposing further misconduct by the teacher, suggesting the initial incident was not an isolated affair.

“In fact, we have seen other videos of the same teacher engaged in similar inappropriate behaviour with other girls we believe are also students. Based on what we know so far, we believe that the now disgraced and interdicted teacher used his privileged position as a teacher to exploit vulnerable female students,” the Deputy Minister added.

The Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has strongly condemned the developments, describing the incident at Bole Senior High School as “unacceptable, shameful, and inconsistent with the values and standards expected of members of the teaching profession.”

Dr Apaak urged the police to utilise digital tracking tools and liaise with the media houses that published the suspect’s recent comments to pinpoint his location.

He maintained that the public still holds the police service in high regard and expects a swift arrest given their enviable track record in apprehending criminals.

The Ministry reiterated its grave concern over the rising tide of indiscipline involving teachers, heads, and students across educational institutions nationwide, warning that such incidents severely threaten the creation of safe learning environments.

To curb the trend, the sector minister has directed the Ghana Education Service (GES) to enforce decisive disciplinary measures against any acts that breach professional ethics.

Furthermore, the Ministry has announced plans to host a National Dialogue on tackling indiscipline in schools, aiming to bring key stakeholders together to devise sustainable solutions for Ghanaian educational institutions.

Members of the general public with information on the interdicted teacher’s whereabouts are urged to contact the police immediately.
