At least 15 people are feared dead following a devastating three-vehicle collision at Odumase, near Konongo, on the Kumasi-Accra Highway.
The collision involved a passenger bus, a cargo truck transporting tomatoes, and an empty fuel tanker.
While police have yet to officially establish the cause of the disaster, eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the crash occurred during an attempted wrongful overtaking maneuver, which resulted in a violent head-on collision.
Emergency response teams deployed to the scene worked to rescue victims trapped in the mangled wreckage.
The incident caused severe gridlock, halting traffic along the major transit corridor.
Adding to the regional gridlock and growing safety concerns, a second accident was reported shortly after at nearby Dadieso.
The back-to-back incidents have renewed urgent public calls for improved safety measures on the notoriously busy highway.
