The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Divine Otoo Agorhom, has disclosed that he is yet to receive the official letter instructing the party to suspend the Weija-Gbawe Constituency Executive Committee elections.

Speaking in an interview on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Mr Agorhom stated that despite widespread claims that the national leadership had issued a directive to halt the polls, no such notice had been brought to his attention.

The national leadership of the NPP reportedly suspended the Weija-Gbawe Constituency Executive Committee elections.

However, the polls proceeded despite the directive, sparking outrage among aggrieved former polling station executives and chairmanship aspirants.

The disgruntled members have since formally petitioned the National Executive Committee (NEC) to demand the outright annulment of the results.

Ahead of the voting, several constituency executive aspirants, including chairmanship hopeful Benjamin Adams, actively boycotted the process in deference to the national leadership’s directive.

Commenting on the brewing controversy, the Regional Chairman maintained that he had not been served with any such communication from the party headquarters.

Even when he was prompted that the letter in question was dated 6 July 2026, he stated categorically that the document had not reached his desk.

“I have not received any letter from the party instructing for the Weija-Gbawe election to be put on hold,” he said.
He further explained the official communication channels of the party, stating: “You’ve asked whether I received a letter or not, and my response is no. It does not matter what date is on it. If the National Chairman wants to write me a letter, he will send a copy to me. This would be done before any other copies would also go, just to establish the authenticity. It is not through a radio station that I will be informed that such a letter is out.”

Mr Agorhom also cautioned against the unquestioned acceptance of documents circulating in the public space, pointing out the modern risks of digital manipulation.

“In recent times that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is being used in generating content, one must exercise caution. There are people who can fake letters, your signatures, and sign on any documents. So, I cannot speak to any document that has not gone through the channels of communication of the party,” he added.

He concluded by stressing that if there are individuals who claim to have received or seen the suspension directive, he remains entirely in the dark regarding its existence.
