Ghana’s crusade for continental solidarity and historical justice has secured a massive boost on the sub-regional stage, after the ECOWAS Council of Ministers declared its full support for two major initiatives championed by Accra.

The endorsements were secured during the ministerial sessions in Sierra Leone, which paved the way for the Authority of Heads of State and Government summit.

In a statement tracking the high-level diplomatic engagements, Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, commended his West African counterparts for rallying behind Ghana’s petition to the African Union against xenophobia.

The petition seeks to address growing concerns over discriminatory violence across the continent, reinforcing the need for a safer, more unified Africa.

In another significant diplomatic victory, the regional body gave its unconditional endorsement to the Accra Next Steps Commitments on Reparatory Justice.

This framework represents a crucial step forward in the global campaign demanding accountability and restitution for historical injustices against people of African descent.

Reflecting on the successful deliberations, Mr Okudzeto Ablakwa restated Ghana’s unwavering dedication to the pan-African ideals that have long defined the nation’s foreign policy. He noted that the country will continue working tirelessly towards the attainment of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s enduring dream of a united, tolerant, and prosperous Africa.
