The Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, has lauded Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson for steering Ghana’s economy effectively without relying on reckless borrowing or burdensome electronic transaction taxes.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Thursday during the debate on the Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review of the 2026 Budget, the Majority Leader commended the Finance Minister for delivering solid results while taking a markedly different path from his predecessor.
Ayariga recalled how the previous administration insisted the economy could not function without taxing mobile money transfers alongside extensive borrowing.
In contrast, he noted that Dr Forson successfully repealed those levies and brought stability to the national coffers without accumulating reckless debt.
Addressing allegations of contradictory figures regarding allocations to the Ministry of Agriculture, the Majority Leader clarified the record, affirming that no discrepancy exists between statements made by the Minister and his deputy.
He explained that the deputy minister had referenced an overall release of 1.6 billion Cedis, which perfectly aligns with the 1.1 billion Cedi direct release to the ministry combined with the 551 million Cedi disbursement for Farmer Services Centres presented by Dr Forson.
According to Ayariga, the fiscal review demonstrates prudent financial stewardship, proving that the Finance Minister has given an outstanding account of himself in managing the country’s economic affairs.
