Prioritise Agenda 111 over 24-Hour Economy Markets – Akim Oda MP to gov’t

July 23, 2026

The Member of Parliament for Akim Oda Constituency, Hon. Alexander Akwasi Acquah, has urged the government to prioritize adequate funding for the ongoing Agenda 111 hospital projects in the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the lawmaker expressed strong reservations over the GH¢100 million previously allocated in the main 2026 Budget to complete 10 hospitals, describing the figure as woefully inadequate.

He emphasized that the cost of equipping a single medical facility with modern equipment could easily exceed $100 million, making the current allocation insufficient to deliver the intended healthcare infrastructure.

Ahead of the Finance Minister’s presentation to Parliament today, Thursday, July 23, 2026, the MP called for complete transparency regarding the nation’s economic figures.

He urged the Ministry to present a realistic assessment of the economy rather than relying on controlled indicators that appear favorable on paper but fail to reflect the daily realities of citizens.

Hon. Akwasi Acquah criticized the government’s cautious spending approach, arguing that the deliberate withholding of critical funds out of fear of driving up inflation has severely hampered essential infrastructure development.

He cited the recent flood disasters as a tragic consequence of this fiscal policy, claiming that delayed disbursements for the Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) project directly compromised public safety.

The former Deputy Minister further faulted the government’s public spending priorities, questioning the emphasis placed on developing 24-Hour Economy markets over vital healthcare projects.

He maintained that completing the Agenda 111 hospitals should remain the primary focus of any forward-thinking administration, urging the Finance Minister to use the Mid-Year Review to align national expenditure with the pressing healthcare needs of the public.
