One dead, four injured in fatal crash on Accra–Kumasi Highway

One person has been confirmed dead, while four others sustained varying degrees of injury following a serious road accident at Frimpongso on the Accra–Kumasi Highway.

The incident occurred when a Kia VIP Grandbird bus rammed into the rear of a broken-down MAN diesel truck parked along the side of the road while attempting an overtaking manoeuvre.

Firefighters from the Anyinam Fire Station rushed to the scene following an emergency call to rescue victims who were trapped in the wreckage.

The crew successfully extricated two trapped occupants from the damaged bus and assisted in coordinating emergency transportation for all injured passengers to the nearest medical facility.

One male victim was later pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. Four other passengers are currently receiving treatment for their injuries.

The collision left the VIP bus with extensive structural damage to its front section, while the stationary truck also suffered severe rear-end damage.

Preliminary investigations by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) indicate that the crash was triggered by the bus attempting to overtake without sufficient visibility of the faulty stationary vehicle parked along the stretch.

Authorities are continuing investigations into the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
