Tragedy has struck following the severe accident along the Dzorwulu to Accra Mall stretch of the N1 highway, as one of the young victims admitted to the Police Hospital has passed away.

The child, who was among 11 lower primary pupils rushed to health facilities following the collision, died while receiving emergency treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The deceased and ten other children, aged between 3 and 10 years old, were travelling in a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter bus when the incident occurred.

Preliminary findings indicate that the children were returning from Ashaiman towards Accra, dispelling earlier reports that they were on a school excursion.

The crash occurred when a loaded tipper truck executed an improper overtaking manoeuvre, causing the heavy vehicle to collide violently into the stationary Sprinter bus.

Medical teams at both the Police Hospital and the 37 Military Hospital have been working tirelessly to care for the victims, several of whom sustained critical injuries in the crash.

Firefighters and police personnel remain engaged in safety assessments and investigations at the site.

The loss of the young life has cast a heavy cloud over the tragedy, and our heartfelt condolences go out to the bereaved family and loved ones during this painful time.
