The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations has handed over an additional batch of 2,000 laptops to the University of Ghana under the One Million Coders Programme.

This latest presentation pushes the total tally of computers supplied to the nation’s premier tertiary institution to 2,500.

Receiving the equipment on behalf of the university, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo highlighted the gesture as a major catalyst for the institution’s ongoing drive towards campus-wide technology modernization.

She revealed that starting next semester, fresh university entrants will take compulsory modules linked to the coder initiative. The updated general curriculum will embed four distinct certifications: Digital Literacy, AI Essentials, AI Professional, and Prompt Engineering Essentials.

Speaking at the presentation, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, praised the university administration for swiftly weaving these practical tech modules into formal coursework.

“Digital skills and AI literacy are becoming as fundamental as reading and writing,” the Minister stated, urging undergraduates to leverage the hardware to craft practical software solutions, launch commercial ventures, and power nationwide economic growth.

The joint effort underscores an ongoing commitment between state authorities and university management to prepare students with modern computing expertise for an increasingly automated global workforce.
