Two arrested after viral video shows 12-year-old driving articulated truck

Officers from the Ghana Police Service have arrested a 12-year-old boy and a 34-year-old man in connection with a viral video showing the minor operating a heavy-duty truck.

The minor was captured behind the wheel of a DAF XF 105 articulated truck bearing registration number GS 3097-20, prompting swift action from law enforcement following widespread public concern over the footage.

Both suspects are currently in the custody of the Central Motor Traffic and Transport Department in Accra, where they are assisting investigators with ongoing enquiries.

In a statement following the arrests, the Ghana Police Service cautioned parents, guardians, and vehicle owners against allowing minors or unlicensed individuals to operate motor vehicles.

Police authorities warned that permitting unqualified individuals to drive, particularly heavy-duty commercial vehicles, poses a severe threat to public safety and constitutes a direct breach of the Road Traffic Act.

The police service further appealed to members of the public to support road safety initiatives by reporting similar dangerous incidents and encouraging responsible road use across the country.
