The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has issued a stern warning to directors and senior officials within the health sector, cautioning that altering approved postings could result in the forfeiture of their directorial positions.

Speaking during an engagement with Bishops of the Catholic Church in Ghana, the Minister stressed the need for strict discipline, fairness, and unwavering adherence to administrative procedures.

He highlighted that the government is currently prioritizing the deployment of health professionals to underserved regions and districts to ensure equitable access to healthcare across the country.

During the meeting, Mr Akandoh outlined key government interventions designed to enhance quality healthcare delivery nationwide.

These include the Free Primary Healthcare Initiative, updates to the National Health Insurance Scheme, and the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, also known as MahamaCare.

Addressing the status of the Agenda 111 hospital projects, the Minister acknowledged significant hurdles, particularly funding constraints and operational delays that have left numerous facilities unfinished.

He explained that the government has strategically narrowed its focus to completing 35 priority projects to make them operational for the public as quickly as possible.

To help bridge the infrastructure gap, the Minister invited faith-based institutions, including the Catholic Church, to collaborate with the government to complete some of the stalled facilities on a non-profit basis, promising that the state would supply the necessary health personnel and operational support.

Mr Akandoh commended the Catholic Church for its longstanding contributions to the health sector and reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining a robust partnership with religious bodies.

In response, the President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, Most Reverend Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, commended the Minister’s proactive leadership and urged even stronger collaboration between the Ministry of Health and Catholic health institutions moving forward.
