‘NPP’s Demo an Assembly of drug-infused ghetto boys and girls’ – NDC’s Anthony Nukpenu

The aspiring Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Anthony Kwame Nukpenu, has described the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) as a political entity lacking direction, leadership, and a coherent agenda.

Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Mr Nukpenu stated that engaging with the NPP is a waste of time because the party jumps on every irrelevant issue in an attempt to stay in the spotlight.

Mr Nukpenu, who currently serves as the NDC Regional Organiser for the Greater Accra Region—a position he has held for 16 years—indicated that the NPP must focus on addressing its internal leadership crisis rather than chasing cheap publicity.

“When it comes to issues about the NPP, I do not want to waste time in speaking about them because this is a political party lacking leadership, direction and any proper agenda. They chase after anything irrelevant in their quest to stay relevant,” he stated.

He further noted that commenting on the party’s activities is a distraction, emphasizing that the NDC remains focused on delivering its mandate to the Ghanaian people.

Questioning the NPP’s justification for claiming that Ghana’s democracy is under threat, he challenged the party to clearly define the exact nature and context of this alleged threat.

Speaking ahead of a scheduled protest by the opposition, the NDC stalwart dismissed the exercise as “much ado about nothing.” He alleged that the event would merely be an assembly of vulnerable youths manipulated through financial inducements and illicit substances.

According to him, the party’s usual tactic involves paying these young individuals GH₵100 and supplying them with hard drugs, such as Tramadol, to participate in their activities.

He advised the young people in these communities not to allow themselves to be used as political proxies for selfish interests. He stressed that the youth of Ghana must resist being exploited for reckless demonstrations, urging them to tell political leaders to use their own biological children instead.

Mr Nukpenu asserted that if the NPP leadership is sincere about the protest, the party’s presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua, and National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye (alias Nana B) should place their own children and relatives at the forefront of the demonstration.
