The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has sustained the initial cancellation of Adamus Resources’ mining lease following a report by the Ministerial Review Committee established to hear the company’s appeal.
Speaking during a working visit to the Adamus Mine at Salman in the Ellembelle District, Mr Buah revealed that the review panel confirmed most of the violations flagged during the primary evaluation, prompting a directive for the Minerals Commission to take charge of operations.
The action stems from the government’s earlier revocation of the lease over alleged breaches of contractual terms and operational standards.
The Minister emphasised that the appeal process ensured the mining firm’s grievances were thoroughly evaluated before reaching a final resolution.
He noted that the committee’s findings validated the original decision to strip the company of its lease, clearing the path for state control.
“Following the report of the Minerals Commission to the Chief Inspector of Mines, and with recommendations of the great violation of the Mining Act and mining regulations. A recommendation for revocation of some mining leases was made.
“The Minister agreed with them; there was a petition, and we formed the ministerial review committee. That work has come to an end. As a Minister, I have concluded to uphold the revocation. What that means is that the Minerals Commission should, with immediate effect, take administrative control of this Mine,” he said.
This intervention aligns with broader state efforts to safeguard Ghana’s mineral wealth for the public good while supporting host communities.
Government is currently considering strategies to reboot the mine, resume production, and create jobs for residents within the Eastern Nzema Traditional Area and across the country.
The Minister’s visit included officials from the Minerals Commission and key stakeholders to gauge site conditions and chart a sustainable path forward.
