President John Dramani Mahama has stated that the proposed Bolgatanga Airport will transform the Upper East Region by unlocking new economic opportunities, attracting investment, and dramatically improving air travel.
Inspecting the project site during his Resetting Ghana Tour of the region, President Mahama noted that the facility will spare residents and travellers the arduous 160-kilometre journey to Tamale just to board flights to Accra.
The airport will feature an initial capacity of 100,000 passengers, with infrastructure designed to accommodate future expansion as demand grows. Beyond easing passenger travel, the project aims to stimulate commercial activity, strengthen the region’s growing mining sector, and provide seamless access for investors moving between the capital and the Upper East Region.
President Mahama expressed optimism that the formal sod-cutting ceremony will occur before the end of the year, adding that contractors are expected to deliver the completed project ahead of its 24-month schedule.
