Renowned Ghanaian sports journalist and broadcaster Dan Kweku Yeboah, who recently won the Comic Media Personality of the Year at the Ghana Comedy Awards, has disclosed that organising comedy shows comes with a heavy price tag.
Speaking on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM’s mid-morning show with host Eddie Ray, Yeboah revealed that staging a single event typically requires a minimum budget of $50,000, with venue rentals alone crossing the GH₵50,000 threshold for a night.
Addressing whether the venture remains financially viable despite the steep costs, he noted that the financial returns have been encouraging enough to keep the initiative alive.
“If we had made losses, we would have stopped doing these shows,” he said. “However, I must admit that organising them is very expensive. All the artistes on the lineup have to be paid, including their catering. As for venues, there is no single location that goes for less than GH₵50,000 a night.”
The popular broadcaster also highlighted the growing international demand for his annual productions, noting that Ghanaians in the diaspora have called for similar events abroad. He shared that he has already visited the United States twice, including one trip where he independently organised a show.
