Officers from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) have successfully extricated a commercial driver who was trapped in his vehicle following a serious road crash at Water Falls Junction along the Kintampo–Tamale Highway.

The incident unfolded on Friday afternoon when the Municipal Commander, DOII Twum Prempeh Dominic, received a distress call at approximately 4:36 pm reporting an accident along the busy stretch.

In response to the emergency, a rescue team led by Assistant Station Officer Agyekum Emmanuel and driven by Station Officer Grade I Adu Clement was immediately dispatched to the scene in fire appliance FS 498.

Arriving at the scene ten minutes later, firefighters discovered a Shacman trailer with registration number GC 3825-19 loaded with packs of bottled drinks.

The heavy-duty vehicle, which was travelling from Kumasi to Buipe, had crashed, leaving the driver pinned inside the wrecked cabin.

The eight-member rescue crew swiftly carried out a scene assessment before using extrication equipment to free the trapped victim. Once safely removed from the wreckage, the injured driver was transported to the hospital to undergo medical treatment.

After ensuring the accident site was thoroughly cleared and rendered safe for other motorists, the rescue team wrapped up operations and returned to base.

The update was confirmed in a statement issued by the Bono East Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service.
