The Ministry of Health opened a three-day mid-year review in Ho to track the implementation of the government’s health commitments outlined in the NDC 2024 Manifesto.
Led by the Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the leadership retreat gathers board chairs, chief executives, and agency directors from across the nation’s public health ecosystem.
The summit centers on measuring progress, identifying bottlenecks, and reinforcing strategies to deliver accessible and affordable care nationwide.
Key agenda items under evaluation include the Free Primary Healthcare policy, the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (MahamaCare), facility retooling, National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) expansion, and new specialized nursing tracks.
“We must ensure strict compliance with the Public Financial Management Act to guarantee prudent and efficient use of every public resource,” Mr. Akandoh told agency heads during his opening remarks. He commended the institutions for early policy milestones while charging leaders to maintain fiscal discipline.
Agency heads will deliver progress reports covering workforce recruitment, nursing trainee allowance structures, and the rollout of specialized cataract centers. The leadership will also review the construction of regional hospitals in the six newly created regions alongside efforts to complete long-abandoned infrastructure projects across the country.
To strengthen institutional governance, the three-day program incorporates specialized Public Financial Management training for all participating directors and chief executives.
Ministry leadership reaffirmed that the review will keep the government’s healthcare agenda on target to reach Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
