Police disown fake safety flyer on airpods and earphones

August 18, 2026
Police GH

The Ghana Police Service has urged the general public to completely disregard a flyer circulating across social media platforms, which purports to be an official public safety announcement prohibiting the use of AirPods, earphones, or other audio devices while driving or riding.

In an official statement, the police clarifyingly stated that the viral flyer is not a communication from the Service, adding that its Cybercrime Unit has been deployed to trace the individuals responsible for the false publication.

“The Service wishes to clarify that the flyer is not a communication of the Ghana Police Service. The Service has neither issued nor authorised the said publication; and our Cybercrime Unit is working on tracing those behind the false publication,” the statement emphasized.

Despite debunking the fake flyer, the police cautioned motorists and other road users against engaging in activities or using devices that could impair their attention and compromise safety.

“The Service, however, wishes to remind motorists and other road users that any activity or device that distracts them or compromises their attention, hearing, control of the vehicle or awareness of surrounding traffic can pose a serious risk to road safety. Motorists and riders should therefore endeavour to avoid distractions and exercise maximum care while on the road,” the statement noted.

The police further urged all motorists, motorcyclists, and road users to familiarise themselves with and strictly obey the Road Traffic Regulations, 2026 (L.I. 2519) alongside all applicable traffic laws to reduce road crashes and protect lives.

Members of the public have been advised to rely solely on official police communication channels for authentic information regarding road safety and public safety matters, as the Service reiterated its commitment to enforcing traffic laws fairly and professionally.
