Okada rider dies, passenger critical after cargo truck collision at Budumburam

One person has been confirmed dead while another is battling for life following a fatal accident involving an Okada motorcycle and a cargo truck at Budumburam on the Kasoa-Winneba Highway in the Gomoa East District.

The deceased, who was riding the motorcycle, died instantly at the scene after sustaining severe head injuries, while his passenger suffered critical body injuries in the crash.

Reports indicate that the motorcycle, carrying the two individuals, was travelling towards Kasoa when the incident occurred. The cargo vehicle, bearing registration number GN-4199-22, was heading in the opposite direction towards Cape Coast.

Eyewitnesses speaking to Rainbow Radio’s flagship news programme, Nyankonton Mu Nsem, stated that the driver of the cargo vehicle drove recklessly and veered into the path of the approaching motorcycle, resulting in a head-on collision.

The impact of the crash left the rider dead on the spot, whilst the injured passenger was quickly rescued and rushed to a nearby medical facility, where he remains in critical condition under intensive care.

Aggrieved residents within the vicinity intercepted the cargo truck shortly after the collision, apprehended the driver, and handed him over to the police.

The police have since taken the driver into custody to assist with ongoing investigations into the exact cause of the crash.
