If Afenyo-Markin had been prosecuted and jailed over ECG mess, he would not be making false claims about GoldBod – Manuribe

Richard Manuribe, a member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) communications team, has launched a blistering attack on Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, asserting that he lacks the moral right to comment on alleged losses at GoldBod.

Mounting a fierce defense of Sammy Gyamfi, Manuribe questioned the Minority Leader’s integrity, pointing to his past tenure as Board Chair of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Ghana Water Company Limited.

He argued that Afenyo-Markin’s track record at these two utility companies deprives him of any authority to criticize others, adding that had state authorities prosecuted him for his actions at the ECG, he would not be making such unfounded claims today. He insisted that the Minority Leader must keep quiet, given his failure to leave a positive legacy in those roles.

Manuribe further expressed frustration with his own government, lamenting that delays in prosecuting former appointees of the previous administration for corrupt activities have emboldened them to misbehave.

He urged the Minority to act as positive role models for the Ghanaian youth rather than engaging in blackmail.

“If Afenyo-Markin was prosecuted and jailed for his wrongs, he would have no business moving around making these allegations. He is not above the law. President Mahama, while in opposition, was investigated. Ato Forson, who was the Minority Leader, was prosecuted. So Afenyo-Markin is not above the law.”

Addressing the ongoing exchange between the two politicians, the NDC communicator refuted claims that Sammy Gyamfi had insulted Afenyo-Markin.

He argued that it was the Minority Leader who personalized the debate by threatening Gyamfi with arrest, prosecution, and jail under bizarre bail conditions. Consequently, he maintained that Gyamfi’s retaliatory remark—telling Afenyo-Markin that his threat of imprisonment would only end up in his brain—did not constitute an insult.

Speaking to host Kwabena Agyapong on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Manuribe stated: “The response from Sammy Gyamfi did not resort to insults or attacks. The questions he was asked and his responses generated the reactions of him saying he would be a prisoner in his brain. These are cognitive responses. The remarks were not attacks. Let us be fair. Some responses are accurate and not attacks as perceived by others.”
