Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has announced a series of financial, welfare, and logistical interventions designed to strengthen domestic football and support former national players.

Speaking at the 32nd GFA Congress, Simeon-Okraku outlined the key decisions aimed at elevating the game across various tiers.

A major highlight of the address was the launch of the GFA Foundation Player Welfare Initiative, which commits US50,000 annually over the next four years to assist former national team players facing medical conditions.

The total investment of US200,000 seeks to address the long-term healthcare needs of ex-internationals who served the nation with distinction. Simeon-Okraku emphasized that the football fraternity must stand by former players struggling with health challenges after their active careers.

The GFA confirmed continued financial backing for the Division One League (DOL), committing approximately GHS 16,244,151.25.

The package covers match officials’ fees, GHS 120,000 to each of the 48 participating clubs, and 30 footballs per team.

Similarly, the Women’s Premier League (WPL) will receive dedicated funding.

The FA is covering match officials’ fees, supplying 30 football boots to each of the 20 clubs, providing GHS 100,000 direct funding per club, and facilitating fuel support through Melcom and Goil.

Alongside the funding packages, the FA reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the mandatory Youth Integration policy across the Ghana Premier League, WPL, Division One, and Division Two leagues to guarantee regular competitive minutes for young talents.

Addressing transport challenges, Simeon-Okraku highlighted the progress of the Bus Strategy, which has already delivered 13 buses to WPL and DOL clubs.

To build on this initiative, five additional buses are being distributed to top-performing clubs under the enhanced Merit Awards Programme in recognition of their achievements during the 2024/2025 season.
